We are determined to protect our current pristine trout waters as they face many challenges such as development, ORV overuse, and other encroachments that threaten these waters. We work to accomplish this in many ways including lobbying our local, state, and national politicians, the State DNR, and the U.S. Forestry Service.
Trout migrate, and sometimes there are obstructions such as dams, culverts, and other stream diversions that prevent this. Our mission is to correct as many of these obstructions as possible. Culverts such as the walk through type improve stream flow and allow the fish to move up and down the stream.
There are also streams that could be productive trout waters but need help. Our chapter is devoted to stream work and restoration. We improve habitat through various means so even more streams that are able to host healthy trout. We support the Georgia back the Brookie project, which works to restore the historical range of the Appalachian Brook Trout.
This may be the most important objective of our chapter as all of our work we fade away of we do not educate the public and especially our children. We donate yearly to the Arrowhead Environmental Center. We have also established an endowment fund at the Warnell School of Forestry, at the University of Georgia. We sponsor Kids Fishing Day on the Saturday before father’s day to promote family and to introduce children to the joy of trout fishing.
Please join us to help us make a difference in our environment, and have clean cold streams for now and for future generations. Come to a meeting and meet members that can help you in your trout fishing experience!
